What Is the VSOL V1600G1-B?
The V1600G1-B is installed at the service-provider side of a GPON network and manages subscriber ONTs through the passive Optical Distribution Network.
| Network Component | Function |
|---|---|
| GPON OLT | Controls subscriber ONTs |
| GPON SFP | Provides optical PON transmission |
| ODF | Terminates feeder fibres |
| PLC Splitter | Divides one PON signal |
| Feeder Fibre | Carries GPON traffic |
| Fibre Closure | Protects fusion splices |
| FAT Box | Distributes subscriber fibres |
| FTTH Drop Cable | Connects customer premises |
| ONT / ONU | Terminates GPON service |
| Router | Provides subscriber LAN or Wi-Fi |
Eight GPON Ports
The OLT provides eight independent GPON interfaces, allowing an ISP to split its fibre network into several distribution zones.
| GPON Port | Example Use |
|---|---|
| PON 1 | Residential Zone A |
| PON 2 | Residential Zone B |
| PON 3 | Apartment Blocks |
| PON 4 | Business Customers |
| PON 5 | Estate Expansion |
| PON 6 | Campus / Enterprise |
| PON 7 | New Service Area |
| PON 8 | Spare / Future Expansion |
Subscriber Capacity
At different split ratios:
| Split Ratio | ONTs per PON | 8-Port Total |
|---|---|---|
| 1:8 | 8 | 64 |
| 1:16 | 16 | 128 |
| 1:32 | 32 | 256 |
| 1:64 | 64 | 512 |
| 1:128 | 128 | 1,024 |
The 1,024 figure is a theoretical optical endpoint count, calculated from eight ports at the maximum supported 1:128 split. Actual subscriber design should also consider optical loss, ONT registration limits, aggregate traffic, package speeds and uplink capacity. The official V1600G1-B specification confirms a maximum split ratio of 1:128 per GPON port.
1:64 vs 1:128 Splitting
| Feature | 1:64 | 1:128 |
|---|---|---|
| ONTs per PON | 64 | 128 |
| Total on 8 Ports | 512 | 1,024 |
| Splitter Loss | Lower | Higher |
| Optical Margin | Better | Lower |
| Bandwidth Sharing | Fewer Users | More Users |
| Expansion Capacity | High | Very High |
Although 1:128 is supported, 1:16, 1:32 or 1:64 may be preferable where the operator wants better optical margin and fewer subscribers sharing a PON.
GPON Port Speed
Each GPON interface provides the standard GPON line rate:
| Direction | Line Rate |
|---|---|
