What Is the HIOSO HA7304?

The HA7304 is the central active device on the ISP side of an EPON fibre network. It connects the ISP's core or upstream network to multiple subscriber ONUs through passive fibre splitters.

Network ComponentFunction
HA7304 OLTControls subscriber ONUs

The four-port design allows an ISP to divide the network geographically rather than placing all subscribers on a single fibre distribution branch.

HA7304 Subscriber Capacity

The number of subscriber positions depends on the selected split ratio.

Actual network reach will depend on the complete optical power budget.

Four Gigabit Uplink Interfaces

HIOSO HA7304 OLT EPON 4 Port + 4 SFP PX20++

One of the key features of the HA7304 is its combination of fibre and copper Gigabit uplinks.

UplinkQuantitySpeed
SFP Fibre Uplink21000 Mbps
RJ45 Copper Uplink21000 Mbps
Total4

HIOSO specifies two 1000M SFP and two 1000M RJ45 uplink ports

These interfaces can connect the OLT to a MikroTik router, aggregation switch or other ISP core equipment.

HA7304 with MikroTik

A common ISP architecture is:

Internet → MikroTik Router → HA7304 OLT → PLC Splitter → ONU → Customer

The MikroTik can handle:

  • PPPoE authentication

  • Hotspot authentication

  • IP addressing

  • NAT

  • Routing

  • Firewalling

  • Bandwidth queues

  • Subscriber packages

  • RADIUS

  • ISP billing-system integration

The HA7304 then handles the EPON optical access layer between the ISP network and customer ONUs.

Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation

The HA7304 supports Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (DBA) with fine adjustment granularity.

DBA dynamically distributes upstream PON capacity between connected ONUs according to network demand.

BenefitPurpose
Dynamic AllocationAllocates bandwidth as required
Efficient PON UsageReduces wasted capacity
Multiple PackagesHelps support different subscriber profiles
Traffic ManagementImproves bandwidth utilization

ONU Auto Discovery and Registration

The HA7304 supports automatic ONU discovery and registration

This helps simplify FTTH subscriber provisioning because newly connected compatible ONUs can be identified from the OLT.

The platform also provides OAM capabilities for:

  • ONU management

  • Maintenance

  • Diagnostics

  • Remote upgrades

  • Fault troubleshooting

HIOSO specifically highlights remote terminal diagnosis and fault location among the HA7304's management capabilities.

AES-128 Encryption

The HA7304 supports AES-128 encryption for logical EPON links

This helps protect subscriber traffic travelling through the shared passive optical infrastructure.

VLAN Support

The HA7304 supports IEEE 802.1Q VLAN functionality, allowing an ISP to logically separate services and customer groups.

Typical VLAN applications include:

VLANApplication
Internet VLANResidential broadband
Business VLANCorporate customers
Management VLANNetwork equipment
CCTV VLANSurveillance traffic
IPTV VLANVideo services
Voice VLANIP telephony

QoS

The HA7304 supports IEEE 802.1p QoS functionality.

QoS can help prioritize important traffic such as:

  • VoIP

  • IPTV

  • Business traffic

  • CCTV

  • Network management

WEB Management

The HA7304 supports WEB-based management, providing a graphical way to configure and monitor the OLT.

This is particularly useful for smaller ISPs that may prefer a graphical interface for routine administration.

SNMP Management

SNMP management is also supported, allowing the HA7304 to integrate with network-monitoring platforms.

SNMP can be useful for:

  • Network monitoring

  • Device status

  • Fault alerts

  • Performance monitoring

  • Centralized management

CLI Management

The HA7304 also supports CLI management, providing administrators with direct command-line access for configuration and troubleshooting.

1U Rack-Compatible Design

Although described as a small standalone or pizza-box OLT, HIOSO also specifies the HA7304 as being suitable for 1U rack installation.

This makes it appropriate for:

  • ISP server rooms

  • POP sites

  • Network cabinets

  • Data rooms

  • Estate network rooms

  • Campus communication rooms

An internal fan provides active cooling for improved heat dissipation and operating reliability.

HIOSO HA7304 4PON EPON OLT Product Display

The HIOSO HA7304 provides a practical entry point for ISPs that need more capacity than a one- or two-port OLT but do not yet require an eight- or sixteen-port platform. Its four PON interfaces can theoretically accommodate up to 256 ONUs while allowing the fibre network to be separated into four independent distribution branches.

The combination of two Gigabit SFP and two Gigabit RJ45 uplinks also gives operators flexibility when connecting the OLT to MikroTik routers, aggregation switches and upstream ISP equipment. WEB, SNMP and CLI management provide several administration options, while DBA, ONU auto-discovery and OAM simplify subscriber provisioning and ongoing maintenance.

For a complete deployment, Fiber Optics Kenya can supply the HA7304 together with EPON/XPON ONUs, EPON PON modules, PLC splitters, ODFs, FAT boxes, fibre closures, ADSS fibre cable, FTTH drop cable, patch cords, pigtails, fusion-splicing equipment and fibre testing tools.
